Good-Looking & Reliable Retractable Flyscreen

The retractable screen is a relatively new modern screening solution for homes. Stacking doors, bifold doors and sliding doors are quite often the most difficult openings to install screens onto. The Formosa retractable screen offers unrestricted views whilst keeping out of your home those yucky flies and annoying nasty insects. Plus, its's a breeze to operate!

Most new and renovated homes feature an open plan living space with large glass sliding doors leading out to the back verandah, pergola or decking area, installing a retractable fly screen offers a sleek modern look allowing plenty of fresh air into your home. Formosa screens can be installed onto hinged doors and windows too!

We have chosen to be the dealer and installer of the Formosa brand pleated screen; this is the only screen that we feel is the best option for us and our clients. In the past we have tried and tested a few other brands and the Formosa has come up trumps over them all.

There are a number of main points on why we have chosen to only install the Formosa retractable screen.

·         Each screen is custom made by Formosa here in Melbourne.

·         The sleek frame that houses the mesh occupies minimal space.

·         Easy to operate! unlike flat mesh screens there is no rolling or braking mechanisms that can be tricky to operate.

·         We are able to install the screen internally or install onto the face of a frame.

·         Quality and strength of the pleated mesh and tensioning cords.

·         The pleated mesh feature allows the mesh to stay retracted when not in use.

·         Replaceable mesh system. The mesh can be replaced without the need to remove the frame.

Affordable, easy to operate screen is what it's all about!

The price point of the Formosa retractable screen is much more inviting compared to the other types of screens, most of our client’s state that they don’t require a screen that has all the bells and whistles costing them an arm and a leg! When it comes to insect screen protection, we want to keep it simple for you and your wallet!

Fly screens should be simple and allow anyone to be able to operate them easily and quickly without much thought. A Formosa pleated screen means having less worries than a flat mesh screen that can get caught, ripped and crease easily due to the harder operation of the screen.

Formosa has a more attractive look with no large unattractive canister that is required to house the rolling flat mesh screens.  The cords that run through the entire screen are a fantastic feature as they tension the whole screening system, keeping the mesh nice and taught when fully open and stacking the mesh perfectly back away when not in use.

Beware the rough n' tumble of living spaces.

Just like anything in life, retractable flyscreens may not suit all homes and life situations. Many clients have pets that may potentially damage the screen, while the mesh can be replaced it would not be a cost-efficient choice if the screen continually has to be replaced.  We always ask people to consider how well behaved their pet is. Are they a scratcher? An over excited type? Does the pet have anxiety issues and bursts in/out of the doorway? Perhaps it is not the pets in the house that are the worry, small children pushing or running through the mesh at force is not ideal, the cords and mesh can be damaged.

In these situations, we usually suggest a traditional sliding door with a steel mesh be installed instead, however for some homes there is no room for this option, this is due to the glass sliding door set up. Also, the existing handles may be protruding out. Sometimes blinds or curtains can pose an issue if they are unable to be moved and installed out of the way. These issues are especially the case for some apartments.

If clients are happy to choose the retractable screen option, we recommend for the screens to be stacked away at all times when not in use. It is best to supervise children and keep a close eye on the pets when the retractable screen is in use. Perhaps a little training and treats may help over time.

Within the last 3 and a bit years, we have had two instances where the mesh has had to be replaced onsite by Formosa Screens due to damage. The first was from a pet rabbit that decided it was not happy with the new screen so nibbled its way through the cords and mesh. The second was from a guest that had a little bit too much to drink. While singing, dancing and smoking they had inadvertently put a hole in the mesh with their cigarette. Oops!

To keep the retractable screen operating smoothly, ensure you regularly clean out debris and pet hair from the tracks. If you notice that the screen feels a bit tight, spray inside the top and bottom tracks with a furniture spray such as Mr Sheen or a silicone spray.

A large number of new customers are from the friends and family of our clients who have just had their retractable screen installed by us, they all mention how impressed they are with the look and operation of them, they require no sales pitch or convincing on the screen as they have seen first-hand how cool this retractable screen really is.
